Panelboard basics | Eaton PSEC
14:34
Panelboards are one of the most common pieces of electrical distribution equipment that can be found in hotels, airports, schools, gyms, and industrial facilities. Erik Hurd, Power Systems Experience Center Engineer, explains everything you need to know about panelboards: what they are, how they work, and how they are designed. Watch to understand their role in dividing a main electrical power feed into branch circuits, each with a circuit protection device such a breaker or fuse. Explore as Erik explains the key components, including: enclosure, chassis, busbars, breakers, neutral and ground bars, trim, deadfront, and optional devices like surge protection devices (SPD), and metering. Understand the difference between panelboard vs. switchboard vs. loadcenter, including the standards (UL 67 vs. UL 891) and ampacity. Erik also explains how to choose the right panelboard for your application based on specifiable features, installation considerations, and optional features. Thank you for watching one of our many educational videos on the topic of power systems.
